Dr. Deb

Episode 29: Nutrition – Interview with Faye Pietrokowsky

In Episode 29 of Let’s Talk Wellness Now, Dr. Deb invites Faye Pietrokowsky onto the podcast to discuss all things nutrition and organic eating. Together, Dr. Deb and Faye discuss Faye’s introduction into the world of nutrition, organic eating, farmer’s markets, buying locally, cooking from scratch, sugar addictions and different ways you learn about where your food truly comes from.

You keep going back to the same markets, so you develop relationships. So what happens is, you can say after a while who would you trust – and they’ll tell you… But I have found, the farmers will give me tons of information. Someone said to me ” ya know, we’re not organic certified because it’s so expensive, but we don’t use pesticides”.

In an attempt to determine what truly constitutes as organic, Dr. Deb and Faye give insight into farming and distribution, and why it can be important to dig deep and ask questions about your food.

It can be very overwhelming when you start diving into food, and label reading, and what’s real and what’s not. And I agree, the organics thing – sometimes it’s a joke… I live in a rural area, and we farm, and our neighbors farm. And there’s an organic farm next to my neighbor that says “Please Don’t Spray”, and here comes comes the crop duster right over the neighbor’s farm – and that blows into the organic farm.

Episode 28: Moms On Fire – Interview With Dr. Misty Kosciusko

In Episode 28 of Let’s Talk Wellness Now, Dr. Deb invites great friend and Chiropractor, Dr. Misty Kosciusko, onto the podcast to discuss her new health program Moms On Fire – and her personal health journey that led to the program’s concept. Dr. Deb and Dr. Kosciusko discuss topics ranging from the heavy burden of motherhood, nutrition and functional medicine to adrenal fatigue, detoxification and how to help your body heal itself.

I’ve always been very fit my whole life, and fairly healthy. When I became a mom, I was trying to run my practice, I was juggling a lot, my daughter had a colic, I went through these insane pregnancies, and my health started to rapidly decline. At the time I was so fatigued – I couldn’t even bring myself to get out of bed.

Dr. Deb and Dr. Kosciusko discuss the incredible value of nutrition and provide information on Keto and Paleo diets, as well as specific foods you should look to avoid. Together, they speak about stress, and the way trauma and adrenal fatigue can significantly impact your health and well being – and subsequently the lives around you.

This is the mission for Moms On Fire – it’s really, self-empowerment for mothers. Because mothers are the keystone and the foundation of the family. We juggle so much, and when that foundation is cracked or crumbling, that affects the entire family.

Episode 27: Brain Health – Interview with Dr. Erica Linn, DNP

On Episode #27 of Let’s Talk Wellness Now, Dr. Deb invites Dr. Erica Linn, DNP, of Serenity Health Care Center for a conversation on brain health. Dr. Linn, is an Amen Clinics Certified Brain Health Coach, and treats a myriad of brain health issues as a practitioner at Serenity Health Care Center. Listen in for a discussion on topics ranging from brain inflammation and memory loss, to Alzheimer’s and the role that over stimulation (phones, social media, etc) can have on short and long term brain health.

… there’s also some research coming out that’s connecting that very much with anxiety – that anxiety is more than anything, a difficulty in shutting down certain parts of the brain that need to be very selective in what stimuli they’re taking in. And so when we’re not able to be selective anymore, then that can really create a lot of anxiety – which over time can cause degeneration. Which in the long run can potentially contribute to the memory problems that we get concerned about in older people.

Dr. Deb and Dr. Linn discuss the relationship between gut bacteria and the brain, and how it may impact memory, focus, attention, anxiety and depression. Together they talk about the differences between conventional and functional medicine regarding brain health, how someone can find out if they may have an inflamed brain, and the sort of testing and screening options that are available.

We know that for every message being sent from the brain to the GI system, that there are nine messages going from the gut, up to brain. For a while in functional medicine, the gut was called the second brain, but know we’re actually thinking more and more as the gut as the first brain, in the sense that it controls, in some regards, even more than the brain in our head does.

Episode 26: Ritual Tantra – Interview with Leslie Grace

On Episode #26 of Let’s Talk Wellness Now, Dr. Deb invites Registered Nurse, turned Sexual Embodiment & Tantra Coach, Leslie Grace, to the podcast for an incredible conversation about ritual tantra, conscious sexuality, sexual awakening, femininity, classical tantra vs neotantra, and so much more! Leslie gives insight into her unique journey to becoming a Sexual Embodiment Coach, and provides a LIVE exercise of what you might experience by working with her!

… I guess I want to start by going way back, to my Midwestern roots, to my Catholic upbringing – where I had all the guilting and shaming around sex. Your body is not okay… your desires are not okay… and the deep imprint that left on me as a little girl wanting to do good in the world…

Leslie details the difference between tantric sex and conventional sexuality, and how tantra can help improve, increase, and enhance sexual experiences alone and with your partner. Listen in as Dr. Deb and Leslie discuss the value of self-pleasure, and how to ensure both you and your partner receive complete, fulfilling pleasure.

In tantra, we recognize that we are not just physical beings – that we’re also energetic beings and emotional beings. And that all those layers are connected. So, rather than just focusing on physical level pleasure – we’re also wanting to focus on the flow of energy in our bodies.

Episode 25: Better Lover – Interview with Susan Bratton

In Episode 25 of Let’s Talk Wellness Now, Dr. Deb invites Susan Bratton, Sex Advisor To Millions, onto the podcast for a raw, exhilaratingaction packed conversation about her upcoming Summit (sexualvitalitysummit.com), and a variety of sexual health related topics ranging from self love, Susan’s 30 Day Masturbation Challenge and choosing the right vibrator, to hormones, pornography, footgasms and the health benefits of semen!

My husband and I just went to Europe for a month – and I said to him I’m going to try to masturbate everyday… and I don’t want you to worry that that’s going to cut into our lovemaking time… my sex life is not a fixed pie – my sex life is an abundant, overflowing cup of sexuality… And you’re welcome to masturbate along with me, as much as you want… And I’m a shy masturbator… I like to masturbate right when I wake up… But what I really like – he’s goes off and gets coffee and I masturbate while I’m waiting for him to bring me coffee in bed!

Dr. Deb and Susan discuss the value of self acceptance and choosing to love your own flesh – regardless of the circumstances. Susan brings up the idea of having a Goddess mindset, and the value it can bring to your overall (and sexual) happiness.

We can come from a place of self love and acceptance, or we can come from a place of self flagellation and disappointment. If we take on the mantle of being a Goddess, if we hold ourselves like Goddesses, if we connect ourselves to the earth – we ground ourselves… The Goddess loves herself – she takes her pleasure. She opens and allows, she receives, she feels rooted to nature, she is expansive and forgiving, she is graceful and elegant. She is in the mind of pleasure and joy. She is not worried about other people, she is focused on the moment, and being present with herself and her partner.

Susan discusses tips and techniques for better masturbation and overall sexual experiences. She discusses oils, vibrators, vulva and penis massages, and the value of utilizing different toys for different forms of pleasure.

I realized that most women only have maybe 1 vibrator, or 2 vibrators – they’re not really using them. And then I thought, boy, if we all thought about having as many vibrators as shoes – or having half as many shoes, and twice as many vibrators!

Episode 24: The Goddess Within – Interview with Sunni Boehme

Longtime friend and Master Life Coach, Sunni Boehme, joins Dr. Deb on Episode #24 of Let’s Talk Wellness Now for a conversation all about Goddess Archetypes, manifesting, and the value of speaking openly about sex. Sunni profiles Goddess Archetypes from Athena and Artemis to Demeter and Aphrodite, and speaks about the value of identifying which archetype you could be.

It’s also really interesting… remember a few years ago, when 50 Shades Of Gray came out? The women who really got into these books – were the Athena and Artemis to archetypes. Because they’re usually always in control! So it was just the total opposite of anything they ever thought they wanted – but it was an adventure… It sparked a lot of fire!

Listen in to learn about understanding your sexual needs, how to communicate them effectively with your partner, and optimizing your sexual wellness.

Ya know, growing up in our era – you didn’t talk about sex with your mom. If you were lucky you had a sister that you could feel comfortable enough talking about sex with… we all need to have someone that we can openly have conversations… and know that we’re not being judged… and know that there are some solutions and some answers to what we’re struggling with.

Episode 23: Interview with Monica Zatarski

In Episode 23 of Let’s Talk Wellness Now, Dr. Deb invites, Monica Zatarski, PharmD, RPh, of MD Custom Rx, in Brookfield, Wisconsin, back to the podcast! Dr. Deb and Monica discuss topics ranging from erectile and orgasmic dysfunction, vaginal changes with age and compounding pharmacies, to oxytocin, hormones and “scream cream”!

The first one that comes to mind, is oxytocin – which is a super exciting hormone! No pun intended!… it’s also referred to as the bonding hormone… it is called that often because of its association with being released during nursing, or breastfeeding… but it also gets released anytime we have a physical connection with a person… touching, hugging, massage… will release oxytocin as well.

Dr. Deb and Monica discuss ways women (and men) can stay creative on their journeys to Sex-Cess, dealing with loss of desire, and the value of staying sexually happy.

The happier we are sexually, and the more we’re touching, and physically connecting with other humans – just the happier, we can be.

Episode 22: Nutrition For Sex-Cess

In Episode 21, Dr. Deb discusses Nutrition For Sex-Cess – all the ways that your nutrition affects your sex life. Not only does Dr. Deb focus in on aphrodisiacs, she also highlights the impact that vitamins, minerals, medications and chemicals can have on your hormones and libido.

Everybody talks about oysters, and how it’s a great aphrodisiac, and chocolate of course… but ya know, there are other things, on a day to day basis, that help to increase our sex drive and how we feel.

Dr. Deb also highlights the difference between an alkaline diet and an acidic diet – and the role they play in your body’s libido. She lists foods that fall into both categories, some health consequences that can result from eating those foods, and the value of performing a pH test.

If you’re in a more acid state, your body will be much more inflamed, much more in pain … Alkalinity – lowers that crushing inflammation that we have. Which in itself, increases our body’s ability to have a higher libido.

Episode 21 – The Red Light District – LIVE From Amsterdam

In Episode 21, Dr. Deb hosts Let’s Talk Wellness Now LIVE from the Red Light District in Amsterdam, Netherlands! Listen in to this special podcast about the history of the Red Light District, the origins of prostitution and some interesting observations made by Dr. Deb during her time abroad.

The Dutch Government does look at prostitution as a legal business… they do pay taxes, they have to show a European passport, you have to show papers and you have to show a clean bill of health. They also require that every customer, that has sex with a prostitute, has to wear a condom.

Dr. Deb discusses some interesting statistics and highlights a conversation with a Russian immigrant who moved to the Red Light District to take advantage of its unique opportunities.

The windows are actually privately owned by each of the workers, and they have to pay that money up front before their day. They pay 150 euros for a 10 window shift and they don’t get any Sundays off – they work 7 days a week here.

Episode 20: A Woman’s Touch – Interview with Ellen Barnard

In Episode 20 of Let’s Talk Wellness Now, Dr. Deb invites, Ellen Barnard, Owner of A Woman’s Touch, sex education resource center and sexuality products shop, to speak about sex education, the journey that led her to A Woman’s Touch and the knowledge she’s acquired over her expansive career.

We’re all sexual… we all have a relationship with sexuality…

Dr. Deb and Ellen touch on subjects ranging from sex education, sexual curiosity and masturbation, to feminism, stigmas regarding sexuality and toys into the bedroom.

Nobody knows what you like – but you. It’s so funny, even women who have women partners – they expect their woman partners to know what they want – and it’s not true! Because we all have different bodies and we all have different minds, and our minds and bodies work together in unique ways around sex and pleasure.
